The country splits into two weather zones. St Vincent is mountainous and green, with rain on the windward coast and around La Soufrière; the Grenadines — Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Mayreau, Union and the Tobago Cays — are smaller, drier and windier, which is why they hold up better in the shoulder months.

Weather by zone
On St Vincent, December to April is the reliable window. May is still workable, June and July turn wet, and August to October is the stormy stretch. The coast stays warm all year at roughly 26–31 °C, so the variable is rain and wind, not temperature.
The Grenadines are drier and more consistent. December to May is best, June and July are acceptable, August to October is storm season, November is mixed and December returns to best. Trade winds are steady enough for sailing almost year-round, but the winter 'Christmas winds' make ferry and small-boat crossings bumpy — relevant if you are prone to seasickness.
Hurricanes are rarer this far south than in the northern Caribbean, but not rare enough to ignore: Beryl reached Category 4 and hit the southern Grenadines on 1 July 2024. Southern islands including Union and Mayreau were rebuilding afterwards, so confirm what is open before booking a southern itinerary.

Crowds and prices
Peak season runs from mid-December to April. Christmas and New Year, February and the Easter period around the Bequia Easter Regatta are the tightest: ferries fill, Bequia rooms sell out and prices are at their highest. Book accommodation and inter-island ferries weeks ahead for those dates.
May is the sweet spot for value — the Grenadines are still dry, crowds thin and prices drop to medium. November is similar but with more unsettled weather.
The cheapest months are August to October, when prices fall to low. That is a trade, not a bargain: it is the hottest, wettest and stormiest part of the year, and some Grenadine hotels and services close for the season. If you travel then, stay flexible and keep an eye on forecasts.

Events that shift your dates
Two festivals change how the islands feel and how hard it is to move between them. Vincy Mas, the St Vincent carnival, climaxes in early July in Kingstown: parades, music and full ferries and flights. Nine Mornings runs 16–24 December, with pre-dawn street events and music in Kingstown — festive, and the start of peak pricing.
The Bequia Easter Regatta draws sailors and spectators over the Easter weekend and fills Bequia. National Heroes Day on 14 March and Independence Day on 27 October are public holidays with parades and some closures. If your trip overlaps any of these, lock in transport first.

How to decide
If you want the safest weather and do not mind paying peak prices, aim for March or April: driest, calmest sailing, and the Grenadines at their best. If you want dry weather with smaller crowds and lower prices, take May.
If your dates are fixed in the storm season, keep the trip flexible: favour St Vincent and Bequia over the far southern Grenadines, buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption, and check that your hotel is open. September is the one month to skip if you have a choice.
Whatever you pick, the ferries decide the shape of the trip. Build the plan around crossings rather than the other way round.
