How to get to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: airports, flights and border crossings

Use this table to pick your arrival point before you book anything else. Flight times are gate-to-gate estimates and change with season and routing; treat every figure as a 2026 estimate and confirm with the airline.

First decide which island you are sleeping on. If it is St Vincent, Bequia, Canouan, Mayreau or Union Island, Argyle International (SVD) on St Vincent is the practical gateway: it takes the larger aircraft, and from there you either take a small inter-island flight or a ferry. If your hotel is on Bequia, Canouan, Mustique or Union Island, a direct small-plane hop can save a ferry transfer, but seats are limited and baggage allowances are tight.

Second, build the route around a hub. From the US, nonstop service to SVD runs from Miami and the New York area on a seasonal basis, so check whether your dates are covered before you plan the rest of the trip. From the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand you will connect, usually through the US or a Caribbean hub; allow a comfortable connection because a missed link can mean a night in a hub city.

Third, book the onward transfer at the same time as the long-haul flight. Ferries between St Vincent and the Grenadines run on set days and times, and the last departure of the day will not wait for a delayed flight. If you land in the afternoon, plan a night near Kingstown rather than gambling on the same-day ferry.

Fourth, sort the paperwork before you fly. Most visitors need a passport valid on arrival, an onward or return ticket and an address in the islands; some nationalities also need a visa, and the rules differ by passport. Check your own passport against the official immigration guidance rather than a forum post.

Argyle International Airport on St Vincent is the country's main gateway and the only one that handles long-haul and larger regional aircraft. It sits on the east coast, roughly a 20–30 minute drive from Kingstown depending on traffic. Taxis meet arriving flights; agree the fare before you get in.

The Grenadine airstrips at Bequia, Canouan, Mustique and Union Island take small aircraft only. They are convenient if your accommodation is on that island, but they are not a general entry point for the country and they fill up in high season. Baggage limits are low on the smallest aircraft, so confirm the allowance with the operator when you book.

Regional carriers link St Vincent with other Caribbean islands, which is useful if you are island-hopping rather than flying straight home. Schedules are thin and change with the season, so confirm each leg directly with the airline.

There is no land border: Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a set of islands, so you arrive by air or by water. Ferries connect St Vincent with Bequia and the southern Grenadines on a published schedule, and they are the cheapest way to move between islands. They are also the most weather-dependent: rough seas cancel sailings, and the last boat of the day leaves on time.

If you arrive on a private yacht or a cruise call, you clear in at a designated port of entry. Yachts must report to customs and immigration on arrival, and the same passport, onward-ticket and accommodation questions apply. Cruise passengers usually clear through the ship and go ashore for the day; that is not the same as a full entry stamp if you plan to stay.

For anyone arriving by sea, build in a buffer day before an international flight home. A cancelled ferry or a slow clearance can otherwise cost you the flight.

Prices move with the season. High season runs roughly December to May, when demand and fares peak; the same routing in September can cost noticeably less, at the price of more rain and a higher chance of a cancelled ferry. Treat any fare you see as a 2026 estimate and re-check close to booking.

Travel insurance matters more than usual here because a missed ferry or a cancelled inter-island flight is a real risk, and medical evacuation from a small island is expensive. Check that your policy covers the activities you plan, including sailing and any water sports.

Finally, do not leave the transfer to the last minute. The single most common arrival mistake is landing in the afternoon and assuming a same-day ferry to the Grenadines will work. It often does not.
