The Saint John River Valley runs 673 km along New Brunswick's western border with Maine, from Edmundston down to Fredericton and on to the Bay of Fundy. It is a driving valley: towns are 30–90 minutes apart and the sights — covered bridges, a gorge, a living-history village — sit between them, not in one place. Sleep in Fredericton for the widest choice of rooms and food, or in Woodstock for a mid-valley base. Do the upper valley (Grand Falls, Edmundston) as a long day or an overnight, not a there-and-back from Fredericton.

Saint John River Valley: Best June–September. Winters are cold and snowy; mid-February brings the World Pond Hockey Championships to Plaster Rock. Spring melt raises flood risk; autumn colours peak late September to mid-October.

Summer is the reliable window for driving, ferries and outdoor sights; winter is for skiing at Mont Farlagne and the pond-hockey event.
