The Red Centre is desert country around two hubs: Alice Springs in the east and Yulara, the resort village at Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, 440 km south-west. The gap between them is the whole planning problem — about 5–6 hours each way by road, so Uluṟu is not a day trip from Alice. Fly into one, out of the other, or drive the loop with a night at Kings Canyon between them.
