Tetela de Ocampo
Go for one night, two at most: a Pueblo Mágico of about 5,600 people where the sights take half a day and the caves and waterfalls take the rest.
Tetela de Ocampo is a small colonial mining town in the Puebla highlands, roughly 3–4 hours by bus from Mexico City or Puebla. It is a Pueblo Mágico with a Gothic parish church, a mural-filled city hall and a museum about the 1862 fight against the French army. The real draw is outdoors: an undeveloped cave system with an underground river, a 75 m waterfall used for rappelling, and hiking or mountain biking on the surrounding ridges. One night covers the town; add a second for the caves or the falls.

The Centro is small and walkable; the Zócalo, Palacio Municipal, church and museums sit within a few blocks. For the caves, waterfalls or trailheads you need a taxi or a guided tour — taxis wait at a sitio beside the Zócalo, and hotels can call one. - Cave tours at Carreragco involve water and scrambling: bring a change of clothes, a towel and a dry bag for your phone. Not suitable for small children, elderly visitors or anyone with mobility limits.
- Trails and cave access can close after heavy rain; ask locally before setting out in the wet season.
