Perth is a small Midlands town of about 3,000 people, 20 km south of Launceston on the Midland Highway (Highway 1). It is one of the oldest towns in the Tasmanian Midlands, established in 1821, and works best as a highway break or a quiet one-night base for Launceston and the surrounding colonial villages rather than a destination in its own right. Launceston Airport (LST) is actually closer to Perth than to Launceston, which makes it a practical first or last stop on a Tasmania loop.
