- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
Blythe sits on Interstate 10 where the California desert meets the Colorado River, about 2 h from Palm Springs and 2 h from Phoenix. It is a fuel, food and bed stop with over 1,200 motel and hotel rooms, plus two real sights: the Blythe Intaglios and the river. Almost nobody needs more than one night.

A full day or a better base; the nearest real city with shopping and flights.

Winter rock-and-RV market town; little there outside the season.
Glamis sand dunes
cautionDoor to door: About 1 h

I-10 east then US-95 south
Same distance as Palm Springs with less to do; skip unless you are heading that way.

Which area to sleep in
Where to sleep
Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.
Donlon Street cluster (I-10 exits 239–240)
Most of the chain motels sit here, a short drive from the freeway; best for one night with a car.
Hobsonway (downtown)
The old US 60/70 main street: diners, a few older motels, walkable but thin on choice.
East Hobsonway
A second row of motels further from the centre; quieter, still a drive to food.
