Dwarka is a temple town of about 39,000 people on the Saurashtra coast, and the Dwarkadhish temple is the reason to come. The town is small enough to walk, the sights outside it need a car or the municipal Darshan bus, and alcohol is banned. Most visitors are domestic pilgrims; foreign travellers are rare and the practical friction is real, but two nights covers it well.

Getting around

The centre is walkable: temple, ghats, Sudama Setu and the small temples sit within 2–3 km. Autos charge by seat for short hops. For the outer circuit (Nageshwar, Gopi Talav, Bet Dwarka, Rukmini Mandir) use the municipal Dwarka Darshan bus or hire a taxi for a half day.

Watch out

Safety

Dwarka is calm and low-crime, and the main risks are practical: passport scams outside the temple, heat from March, and boat or taxi quotes that exclude fees. Keep your passport on you and agree the total before you ride.
  • Men outside the temple may claim foreigners need to hand over passports or fill forms to enter. They do not. No paperwork is required and no one should hold your passport.
  • Phones and electronics are not allowed inside the temple; use the deposit counter. Hiding one and being caught carries a fine (₹1,000 (≈ US$12) reported).
  • Alcohol is prohibited in Dwarka. Do not expect any bar or hotel to serve it.
  • Gomti ghat and the riverbank are best avoided late at night.
  • Bet Dwarka needs a boat from Okha jetty; boat charges and entry fees are not included in taxi quotes.
