Beiseker
Skip as a base: Beiseker is a 45-min highway stop on the Calgary–Drumheller run. Give it 1–2 hours, or one night if you camp or skydive.
Beiseker is a village of about 800 people where Highway 9 meets Highway 72, northeast of Calgary. It has a train-station museum, a 13-ft skunk statue, a campground, a motel and a skydiving airfield. Almost nobody sleeps here for more than one night; the reason to stop is to break the drive to Drumheller or Saskatoon, or to jump out of a plane.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- Canada ↗Visa-exempt travellers flying to or through Canada usually need an eTA; check your passport on the official Government of Canada site (canada.ca) and apply only there.
- Canada ↗A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in national parks such as Banff and Jasper; some spots (for example Moraine Lake) are reached only by shuttle or tour, so book ahead.
- Canada ↗Keep well away from bears, elk and moose; carry bear spray on Rockies trails and follow trail closures.

Getting around
A car is the only practical way in and around. Main Street, the museum and the campground are within a 10-min walk of each other; the skydiving airfield is 3.7 km east on Highway 9 and needs a vehicle.

Watch out
Safety
- No public transit from Calgary: without a car you cannot get here.
- Fuel and food gaps on Highway 9 east of the village: fill up before you leave.
- Winter driving on Highway 9 and Highway 72: snow, ice and drifting, and long empty stretches between towns.
- Cell coverage is fine in the village but patchy on the back roads.
