Karkala is a small Tulu Nadu town about 60 km north of Mangalore. Its main attractions – the 44‑ft Gomateshwara statue, Chaturmukha Basadi, Ramasamudra lake and a few Hindu temples – are clustered near the centre and can be seen in a few hours. A day allows a relaxed pace and a visit to St Lawrence's Church in Attur (5 km away).
