Stay 1–2 nights in Nagoya only if you want Batam's malls, food courts and nightlife; otherwise sleep at Harbour Bay or Batam Centre and pass through.
Nagoya (officially Lubuk Baja) is the commercial heart of Batam, 10–15 minutes from Harbour Bay ferry terminal. It is a stopover town, not a destination: malls, pujasera food courts, cheap hotels and a nightlife strip. Most travellers use it for one night before or after the Singapore ferry, or as a base for a Batam weekend.

Safety
- Traffic in Batam peaks hard; allow an hour to reach Tanjung Uncang or Nongsapura.
- The old Batu Ampar ferry terminal is closed — use Harbour Bay.
- Some bars in the entertainment district have no posted prices: ask the total before you order.
- Carry cash for pujasera stalls and small shops; many accept Singapore dollars but at their own rate.
- Ride-hailing pickups are restricted at some malls and the ferry terminal: walk to the marked point.
