Carthage is a seaside district about 15 km north of Tunis, built over the Phoenician and Roman city. Its archaeological sites are spread through a residential area, so expect to walk or use short taxi rides between them. One full day covers the main ruins; stay in Tunis or Sidi Bou Said and reach the sites by TGM light railway.

Getting around
Walk between nearby ruins, but the district is spread out. The TGM from Tunis stops at Carthage-Hannibal for the Antonine Baths, Roman theatre and Byrsa complex; Carthage-Byrsa for the Tophet; and Carthage-Amilcar for the American cemetery. Parent-country guidance puts TGM fares below TND 1 per ride. Yellow taxis are available; use the meter or agree the fare before departure.
