Przemyśl is southern Poland's second-oldest town and the last stop before Ukraine, just under 3 hours by train from Kraków. The compact centre, hilltop castle and layered Catholic, Uniate and Jewish heritage fill a day; the border station and Krasiczyn Castle are why some travellers stay two.

Getting around

The centre is small and walkable; the Rynek, cathedral and castle hill are within about 20 minutes on foot. Use local buses for the station outskirts and Krasiczyn; taxis are cheap for short hops. Check current timetables at the tourist information office.

Safety

Przemyśl is a small, calm town and generally safe for tourists. Watch for pickpockets around the station and on crowded border trains, and keep passport and tickets handy for customs checks.
  • The station is the Ukraine border point: eastbound platforms need passport and customs checks, and queues can be long.
  • Some museums close one weekday and have reduced winter hours: check before you go.
  • Cross-border trains can be delayed or suspended: check operator updates before travelling east.
