Pensacola
Give Pensacola 2 nights: one for the historic downtown and Naval Aviation Museum, one for Pensacola Beach. Skip it as a beach-only stop — Navarre and Perdido Key are quieter.
Pensacola is a small historic city on a deep bay, not a resort strip: downtown has the museums and bars, and the beach is a 20-minute drive across two bridges. Two nights covers both. Come Mar–May or Oct–Nov for mild weather; summer is hot, wet and inside hurricane season.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: downtown to the beach is 20–30 min, and the beach has no useful bus. Downtown itself is walkable and bike-friendly. ECAT buses run Mon–Sat roughly 5:30am–7:30pm, $1.75 a ride with exact change, but routes are slow and don't reach the beach.

Day-trips
Pensacola Beach
goDoor to door: 20–30 min from downtown
Drive via the Bob Sikes Bridge or the Garcon Point Bridge; no useful bus
Go early in summer: the bridge backs up and lots fill by mid-morning.
Navarre
goDoor to door: About 45 min
Drive US-98 east along Santa Rosa Sound
Quieter sand and the Navarre Beach Pier; good if Pensacola Beach is packed.
Gulf Breeze
goDoor to door: 15–20 min
Drive US-98 across the Pensacola Bay Bridge
Short stop for the bay view and the zoo; pairs with a beach day.
Perdido Key
goDoor to door: About 40 min
Drive west on SR-292 through the naval base area
Florida's westernmost beach; state-park dunes and fewer buildings.
Milton
cautionDoor to door: About 30 min
Drive US-90 east, or I-10 to exit 22
Small river town; only worth it with a specific reason.
Cantonment
skipDoor to door: About 25 min
Drive US-29 north
Suburban and rural; no sight that justifies the drive.

Downtown Pensacola
Palafox Street bars, restaurants and the historic district on foot; free weekend street parking, paid garages on weekdays.
Pensacola Beach
Gulf-front hotels and condos; 20–30 min drive from downtown, and the only place to be if the beach is the point.
Airport and I-10 corridor
Chain hotels near PNS for late arrivals or one-night stops; nothing to walk to.

Watch out
Safety
- Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov; watch forecasts and know your airline's change policy.
- Summer afternoon thunderstorms are near-daily — keep an indoor backup.
- Some major roads carry several names (SR 296 is Bayou Blvd, Brent Ln, Beverly Pkwy, Michigan Ave and Saufley Field Rd); use a map app.
- The Greyhound stop on Pensacola Blvd is a parking lot with no shelter — plan the wait.
- Downtown parking is free on weekends but scarce during events.
