Give Damyang one full day from Gwangju, not a night: Juknokwon, the noodle street and Gwanbangjerim fit in 5–6 hours; sleep in Gwangju.
Damyang is a bamboo county in South Jeolla, about 30–40 minutes by bus from Gwangju. Its sights — Juknokwon bamboo garden, the metasequoia road, Gwanbangjerim grove, the noodle street and a scatter of Joseon pavilions — sit within a few kilometres of the small town centre. Rural buses run every two to three hours, so most travellers come as a day trip from Gwangju rather than staying.

Getting around
Damyang-eup is walkable: Juknokwon, Gwanbangjerim and the noodle street are within about 15–20 minutes on foot of each other. For the metasequoia road, Soswaewon and the outlying pavilions use the rural bus (routes 311 and 322 run most often, roughly every 15–30 minutes; most other routes every 2–3 hours), a taxi, or a rented bike. Bikes can be borrowed free at the county and eup offices, or rented by the hour near Gwanbangjerim. The county city-tour bus covers three loops for a few thousand won.

Safety
- Rural buses are infrequent outside routes 311 and 322 — check return times before you set out, or you may be stranded.
- Taxi drivers rarely speak English; have the place name in Korean (죽녹원, 소쇄원) ready.
- July and August bring the year's heaviest rain — the wettest month averages around 800 mm.
- Some pavilions and gardens are free but unstaffed and close at dusk; there are no lights on the paths.
- Festival dates shift year to year and some are biennial — confirm before planning a trip around one.
