Dinant
One night is enough: citadel, church and cave in a day, kayak or Leffe museum if you stay. Base in Namur or Brussels if you want more.
Dinant is a small Meuse town squeezed between a cliff and the river, 1 h 30 min by train from Brussels. The citadel, the collegiate church, the cave and the Sax house sit within 15 minutes' walk of each other, so a day trip covers the core. Stay one night only if you want kayaking, the Leffe museum or an early start into the Ardennes.

- The citadel cable car can close in strong wind; the 408 steps are the fallback.
