Izu伊豆市
Base in Shuzenji for 1–2 nights: onsen town, wasabi fields and coast, 35 min by rail from Mishima on the Tokaido Shinkansen.
Izu city is the inland onsen town of Shuzenji, not the whole peninsula. It sits at the end of the Izuhakone Sunzu line from Mishima, so it works as a one- or two-night stop between Tokyo and the Kansai rail corridor. Most travellers use it for hot springs, the temple and river, and short trips to the coast.

Getting around
The Izuhakone Sunzu line ends at Shuzenji Station. Buses from the station reach the old town in about 10 min, roughly every 15 min. Tokai Bus covers other peninsula towns. A car helps for Ikadaba, the coast and the brewery; driving is on the left and an IDP (1949 Convention) is required.
