Bundarra is a 676-person village on the Gwydir River, on Thunderbolts Way between Uralla and Inverell. There is no ATM, no taxi and no 24-hour police station, and the only scheduled coach runs one day a week: Tuesday, Armidale to Bundarra arriving 19:15, and Inverell to Bundarra arriving 07:20. It works as a two-to-three-hour break on a New England drive, or a free night at Emu Crossing if you are self-contained.

Getting around

Walk. The whole centre is about 500 m end to end. There is no taxi and no local bus; the nearest car hire is in Inverell, Uralla or Armidale. Fuel is at Bundarra Motor Repairs on Bendemeer Street, with limited Sunday hours.

Safety

Thin services rather than a safety problem: no ATM, no taxi, a one-day-a-week coach and a police station that is not open 24 hours. Carry cash, water and fuel, and plan your drive in daylight.
