Stop for 2–3 hours if you are driving Thunderbolts Way: the 1881 iron bridge, the 1869 courthouse and a counter meal. Do not build a night around it.
Bundarra is a 676-person village on the Gwydir River, on Thunderbolts Way between Uralla and Inverell. There is no ATM, no taxi and no 24-hour police station, and the only scheduled coach runs one day a week: Tuesday, Armidale to Bundarra arriving 19:15, and Inverell to Bundarra arriving 07:20. It works as a two-to-three-hour break on a New England drive, or a free night at Emu Crossing if you are self-contained.
