Tetovo sits in the Polog valley under the Šar Mountains, about 45–60 minutes by bus from Skopje. It is North Macedonia's main Albanian-majority city and its Ottoman monuments — the Šarena Džamija, the Čifte Hamam and the Arabati Baba Tekje — are the reason to come. The sights cluster within a short walk of each other, so a half-day covers the centre; a night adds the fortress hill and a Šar Mountains side trip.

Getting around
The centre is walkable: Šarena Džamija, Čifte Hamam and the Pena river bridges are within 10 minutes of each other. The Arabati Baba Tekje is a 15–20 min walk west. The fortress sits on the hill above town; the walk up from the centre takes 30–45 min and is uphill most of the way. Taxis wait on Ilindenska and Maršal Tito; agree the fare or check the meter before you set off.
