Rules in force · 8Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
  • Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
  • Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
  • Britain and Ireland ↗Neither the UK nor Ireland is part of Schengen: days spent here do not count towards the 90/180-day Schengen limit, and a Schengen visa does not admit you to either country.
  • Britain and Ireland ↗The island of Ireland runs on two currencies: euro in the Republic, pound sterling in Northern Ireland and Great Britain. Carry a card that pays in both without fees.
  • Britain and Ireland ↗Both islands drive on the left. Speed limits are in miles per hour in the UK (including Northern Ireland) and in kilometres per hour in the Republic of Ireland.
  • United Kingdom ↗Most visitors who do not need a UK visa now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling; this includes EU nationals. Irish citizens are exempt. Check the UK government site for your passport.
  • United Kingdom ↗The UK is outside the EU and the Schengen area; a Schengen visa is not valid for the UK.
  • United Kingdom ↗Driving is on the left; London has congestion and emissions charges for most vehicles, so do not drive in the city.

Broadway is a single wide street of 16th-century limestone houses at the northern gateway to the Cotswolds, in Worcestershire. It is compact, walkable and quieter than Bourton-on-the-Water, but the two headline sights — Broadway Tower and Snowshill Manor — sit outside the village and need a car, a taxi or a long walk. Most visitors see the street in half a day and use Broadway as a base for the wider Cotswolds.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

The village is flat and small: everything on the High Street and around the Green is a 10-minute walk. Broadway Tower and Snowshill Manor are 1.5–3 miles away with no useful bus, so plan on a car, a taxi or a proper walk. The nearest mainline stations are Evesham and Honeybourne on the Cotswold line, both a short taxi ride out.

See & do

Day-trips, door to door

Day-trips

Door-to-door, not ride time

Door to door: 15 min by car; 2–2.5 h on foot

Car via the A44 and B4081 (≈ US$5,500), or walk the Cotswold Way

Another limestone village with a wide street; the footpath route is steep in places.

Door to door: About 20 min by car

Car on the A44, or train from Evesham station if you are based near it

Market town on the Avon; useful for the Blossom Trail in spring.

Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle

go

Door to door: About 25 min by car

Car south on the B4632 (≈ US$6,500)

Castle, gardens and a quiet village; pairs well with Hayles Fruit Farm.

Stratford-upon-Avon

go

Door to door: About 45 min by car

Car via the A46

Shakespeare sights and the river; a half-day is enough.

Door to door: About 40 min by car

Car via the A44 and A429

Busier and more commercial than Broadway; go early or skip in August.

Eat & sleep

Which area to sleep in

Where to sleep

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

High Street and the Green

The village itself: coaching inns, B&Bs and the main restaurants, all within a 10-minute walk of each other.

Willersey and the B4632

Cheaper rooms a short drive or 20-minute walk north; you need a car or taxi for evenings.

Chipping Campden

About 6 miles away; a quieter base with more rooms if Broadway is full.

Watch out

Safety

Broadway is a low-crime village and safe to walk at night. The real risks are country lanes with no pavement, uneven limestone paths after rain, and getting stranded without a car after the last train or bus.
  • Car parks fill on summer weekends and bank holidays; the largest is on Leamington Road (WR12 7DZ).
  • Broadway Tower has spiral stairs and no step-free access to the roof.
  • Snowshill Manor is a National Trust property: check opening days before you travel, as it is not open every day.
  • The steam railway does not connect to the mainline network; it runs between Broadway and Cheltenham Racecourse on selected days.
