Half a day to one night: see the James K. Polk home and a few antebellum houses, then move on to Nashville or points south.
Columbia is a small city 50 miles south of Nashville, best known as the hometown of President James K. Polk and for its collection of antebellum homes. Most visitors spend a few hours touring the Polk house and walking the historic district, then continue to Nashville or toward Alabama. The annual Mule Day festival (first weekend of April) draws crowds.
