Murfreesboro is Nashville's largest suburb and Tennessee's sixth-largest city, 55 km southeast of downtown on I-24. It is a university town (Middle Tennessee State) with one genuine national park unit, Stones River National Battlefield, and a small pre-Civil War square. Most travellers sleep here for Nashville prices and drive in; the city itself fills a day, not a week.

Getting around

A car is the default: sights sit 3–8 km apart and buses do not reach the battlefield visitor centre. Rover buses run seven corridors Mon–Fri 06:00–18:00, $1.00 adult fare, no weekend service (check current schedule and fare). Rideshare works downtown and around MTSU but is thin at the battlefield.
