It is a half-day-to-one-day stop, not a base for a week: sights are compact, the old town is hilly and walkable, and the town empties in the semester breaks.

Getting around

Walk: the centre is dense and hilly, and the station is about 10 min on foot from the Marktplatz. Buses run across town; buy on board with coins or card (no notes) or at stop machines. Day pass from 08:30, €4.60 for one person, €11.00 for a group of up to five; Saturdays are fare-free. Cycling is the local default — lock the bike. Driving into the centre is a mistake: one-way streets, resident-only parking at night and paid meters by day.

Tübingen is a low-risk university town; the real issues are pickpockets in crowded festival streets, bikes on shared paths, and the €60 (≈ US$70) fare fine if you board without a ticket.
