Cocoa Beach is a small Atlantic barrier-island town on Florida's Space Coast, about 1 hour east of Orlando and next door to Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center. It is a beach-and-launch base rather than a sightseeing city: the sand, the pier, surf shops and the space program do the work. Two nights covers it; three if you want a launch attempt and a lagoon kayak trip.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: A1A runs the length of the island and FL-520 and FL-528 connect to I-95 and Orlando. Space Coast Area Transit route 9 runs along A1A between Cape Canaveral and south Cocoa Beach, roughly $1.25 a ride (check current fare and timetable). Bike lanes run along the main roads and the beachside blocks are walkable.
