Know before you go

  • The Anglican cathedral was consecrated in 1892 and is often called the southernmost cathedral in the world; the Falklands parish is part of the wider Anglican Communion (check the current description).
  • The arch in front is built from the jawbones of two blue whales and dates from 1933, the centenary of British rule; it is a memorial, not a whaling display.
  • Interior hours are not fixed: ask the Visitor Centre or your lodging before you walk up, especially outside summer.
  • Ross Road is wind-exposed: a hat and a shell jacket matter more than an umbrella.
  • Thirty minutes covers the arch, the churchyard and the interior if it is open.
