  • North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
  • North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
  • North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
  • United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
  • United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
  • United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
  • United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Yardley is a small Bucks County borough on the Delaware River, about 30 miles from Philadelphia and 10 minutes from Trenton. Its own sights take half a day; the reason to sleep here is the SEPTA West Trenton line and the short drive to New Hope, Doylestown, Sesame Place and the river outfitters. Two nights covers the town and one day trip; a car makes the rest of Bucks County reachable.

Arrive & move

Airports are listed under At a glance; this is how to move once you are in

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: sights are spread along River Road and Route 332, and buses are thin. SEPTA's West Trenton line stops in Yardley and runs to Center City Philadelphia in about 50–60 min, useful for a car-free day. In the borough itself, Main Street, the canal towpath and the memorial are walkable; bikes work on the towpath.

Where to sleep

Areas, not hotels: pick the one that fits your arrival time and plans.

Yardley Borough (Main Street and Afton Ave)

Walk to restaurants, the canal and the river; very few beds, mostly inns and short-term rentals. Book early.

Stony Hill Road / Newtown edge

Chain hotels near I-95 exit 49, 5–10 min drive from the borough; best for car travellers and families.

Langhorne / Oxford Valley

More rooms and shopping near Sesame Place, about 15 min by car; use it if the borough is full.

Watch out

Safety

Yardley is a low-crime small town; the real risks are river currents, flooded towpath sections after storms, and deer on River Road at dusk. 911 works everywhere.
  • River Road and the canal towpath flood after heavy rain; check conditions before walking or biking.
  • The Delaware is not a swimming river here: currents and drop-offs. Use a licensed tubing or kayak operator.
  • Many borough restaurants are small and fill on weekend evenings; reserve or arrive before 18:00.
  • Sales tax is added at the till; posted menu prices are not final.
  • Tipping is expected: 18–22% at sit-down restaurants, US$1–2 a drink.
