Yardley
Give Yardley one night as a quiet Delaware River base for New Hope, Doylestown and Sesame Place; skip it as a standalone destination.
Yardley is a small Bucks County borough on the Delaware River, about 30 miles from Philadelphia and 10 minutes from Trenton. Its own sights take half a day; the reason to sleep here is the SEPTA West Trenton line and the short drive to New Hope, Doylestown, Sesame Place and the river outfitters. Two nights covers the town and one day trip; a car makes the rest of Bucks County reachable.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: sights are spread along River Road and Route 332, and buses are thin. SEPTA's West Trenton line stops in Yardley and runs to Center City Philadelphia in about 50–60 min, useful for a car-free day. In the borough itself, Main Street, the canal towpath and the memorial are walkable; bikes work on the towpath.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- River Road and the canal towpath flood after heavy rain; check conditions before walking or biking.
- The Delaware is not a swimming river here: currents and drop-offs. Use a licensed tubing or kayak operator.
- Many borough restaurants are small and fill on weekend evenings; reserve or arrive before 18:00.
- Sales tax is added at the till; posted menu prices are not final.
- Tipping is expected: 18–22% at sit-down restaurants, US$1–2 a drink.
Yardley is a low-crime small town; the real risks are river currents, flooded towpath sections after storms, and deer on River Road at dusk. 911 works everywhere.
