Malinalco is a small Pueblo Mágico in Mexico State, about 1.5 h by bus from Mexico City, known for an Aztec temple cut into the hillside and for the pilgrimage church at Chalma. The town centre is compact and walkable; one full day covers the ruins and the plaza, two nights add Chalma or a hot-spring balneario. It is a weekend destination for people from Mexico City and Cuernavaca, so book ahead for Friday–Sunday.

- The archaeological zone is closed Mondays and closes mid-afternoon; check current hours.
- Parts of the church and convent have been closed for earthquake repairs since 2017; check before you go.
- Holy Week at Chalma draws very large crowds; the village cannot absorb them comfortably.
