Cotia is a municipality of about 150,000 people on the Raposo Tavares highway (SP-270), 30 km west of São Paulo. It has no historic centre worth a trip and no hotel cluster aimed at visitors. The one draw that justifies the drive is Templo Budista Zu Lai, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Latin America, plus a handful of family farms and orchid nurseries in the Caucaia do Alto district. Treat it as a half-day from São Paulo, not a destination.

Raposo Tavares (SP-270) is the spine of the municipality and is congested at rush hour. The centre is walkable; Granja Viana and Caucaia do Alto are not, and buses between them are limited and mostly interurban, so fares are higher. A car or a rideshare is the practical way to reach the temple, the farms and the orchid nurseries.
