Bagh

One night is enough to see the bazaar and a waterfall; add a day for a hike to Ganga Choti or a drive to Dhirkot hill station.

Bagh is a small mountain town in Azad Kashmir, the district headquarters at 1,038 m elevation. It works as a base for short hikes, a waterfall and the Panjal Mastan National Park plateau. Most visitors pass through in one night on the way to Rawalakot or Muzaffarabad.

Watch out

Safety

Bagh is generally safe for visitors, but roads can be hazardous after rain. Avoid hiking alone and carry a local phone number for emergencies. The Line of Control is about 30 km (19 mi) east: do not cross any military checkpoints.
  • Roads can be blocked by landslides after heavy rain; check conditions before setting out.
  • Mobile data coverage is patchy outside the town centre.
  • No ATMs in Bagh: bring enough cash from Islamabad or Muzaffarabad.
