Lawton is a southwest Oklahoma city built around Fort Sill, the Army post that borders it on the north, and the gateway to the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge. Most visitors come by car on I-44 from Oklahoma City, about 1 h 30 min, and use the city as a base for the refuge, Medicine Park and the Meers Store. The historic core is small; the draw is military history, Comanche heritage and prairie wildlife.
