- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.
Roseville is a Sacramento suburb on Interstate 80 in Placer County, about 10 mi (16 km) northeast of the state capital and roughly 20 minutes by car without traffic. It has no landmark sights of its own: the draw is a large shopping mall, a regional park, a waterpark and a rail station on the Amtrak California Zephyr and Capitol Corridor lines. Travellers use it as a cheaper, quieter bed for Sacramento, Auburn and the Gold Country, or as a stop on the Zephyr. One night covers it; two if you want a full day at Golfland Sunsplash or a day trip east into the foothills. A car is close to essential — buses exist but are thin.

Getting around
A car is the practical choice: sights and hotels are spread along I-80, Douglas Blvd and Taylor Rd, and Roseville Transit buses run limited routes with long gaps. Rideshare works for short hops. Amtrak's Capitol Corridor and California Zephyr stop at Roseville station downtown, which is useful for Sacramento and the Bay Area but not for getting around town.

- Douglas Blvd between Harding Blvd and East Roseville Pkwy jams at lunch and rush hour; the Galleria area is worst in the holiday season.
- Red-light cameras are in use: do not run lights, and watch speed limits on I-80 and Douglas Blvd.
- Petty theft around the mall rises in the holidays — keep bags zipped and nothing visible in the car.
