Rules in force · 7Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window…
- Europe ↗Non-EU visitors get 90 days in any rolling 180-day window, counted across all 29 Schengen states together — not per country; the Entry/Exit System now logs each crossing, so an overstay is detected automatically.
- Europe ↗On the first Schengen entry since EES began, non-EU travellers give four fingerprints and a face photo at the border instead of a passport stamp; there is nothing to apply for or pay in advance.
- Central Europe ↗Six of the nine countries here — Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia — charge a time-based motorway vignette, mostly digital and linked to the number plate; buy it before the first motorway past the border, because cameras, not toll booths, do the checking.
- Central Europe ↗Temporary police checks at internal Schengen borders are common in this region in 2026 (Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovenia among others — check): keep your passport on you on every cross-border train, bus and road even though there is no fixed control post.
- Hungary ↗Hungary is in the EU and the Schengen area: check entry rules, the EU Entry/Exit System and any travel authorisation requirement for your passport on official sources.
- Hungary ↗The currency is the Hungarian forint (HUF), not the euro: decline dynamic currency conversion at cards and ATMs.
- Hungary ↗Motorways need an electronic vignette (e-matrica) bought before you drive on them.
Biatorbágy is a small Pest County town of about 12,600 people, 21 minutes by suburban train from Budapest-Déli. Its one real sight is the twin railway viaduct over the Füzes creek valley; the rest is a Swabian heritage house, a few churches and mansions, and fishing lakes in the surrounding hills. Most travellers see it as a half-day from Budapest or a single night on the Budapest–Győr line, not as a destination in itself.

Getting around
The town is split into two halves about 2 km apart: Torbágy in the north (station, viaduct) and Bia in the south (churches, mansions). Local buses run between them; a daily ticket is about Ft 250 (2026 estimate, check). Buy local bus tickets online before boarding — drivers do not sell them. Trains and regional buses link to Budapest; a car helps for Páty, the lakes and the hills.

Watch out
Safety
- Local bus tickets must be bought online in advance; you cannot pay the driver.
- The Sándor-Metternich mansion is a working school: view it from outside, do not expect a museum visit.
- The Bechtold heritage house opens only Apr–Oct and only on set days: check before you walk out.
- Fishing lakes open roughly Mar/Apr–Oct; nothing runs in winter.
- Suburban trains stop early in the evening — check the last return to Budapest before you set out.

Coming as the guide grows
- Airport-to-bed contract for BUD: last train and bus from the airport into Budapest, taxi fallback, overnight rung.
- Four walking clusters with rescue anchors: the station and viaduct, the town centre, Bia around Szentháromság tér, and Páty.
- Place pages with verified opening days (Bechtold house, churches, mansions) and eat pages with last orders.
- Rain-day fixtures (Premier Outlet, Viadukt Fitt squash and bowling) so the page works in bad weather.
