Stay 1–2 nights if you want The Rosses and Arranmore; skip it as a day trip from Letterkenny — the bus alone is 1 h 20 min each way.
Dungloe is the largest village of The Rosses, the headland country west of the Derryveagh Mountains, with about 1,250 residents. It is a Gaeltacht village on the road to Burtonport and the Arranmore ferry, and the base for Cruit Island, Kincasslagh and the beaches around Maghery. There is little to see in the village itself: come for the coast, the islands and one night of pubs, or pass through on the way to Donegal Airport.
