Dungloe is the largest village of The Rosses, the headland country west of the Derryveagh Mountains, with about 1,250 residents. It is a Gaeltacht village on the road to Burtonport and the Arranmore ferry, and the base for Cruit Island, Kincasslagh and the beaches around Maghery. There is little to see in the village itself: come for the coast, the islands and one night of pubs, or pass through on the way to Donegal Airport.

Get around
The village is walkable in 10 minutes, but The Rosses are not: you need a car or bike for Maghery, Cruit Island, Kincasslagh and the beaches. Local Link buses 271 and 966 link the villages, with a handful of runs a day and no evening service.

- Mobile coverage has dead spots on the approach roads; download maps offline.
- Many cafés and restaurants close by 17:00–19:00 outside July and August.
- Atlantic weather changes fast: wind and rain even in summer, and no lifeguards on most beaches.
A quiet, low-crime village; the real risks are Atlantic weather, unguarded beaches, single-track roads with passing places and long waits for the next bus.
