PowellPowell, Ohio
Skip Powell as a base unless you have a car and a zoo or wedding reason: it is a Columbus suburb, 20–30 min from downtown, with 1–2 nights at most.
Powell is an upscale Columbus bedroom community in Delaware County, about 12 miles (19 km) north of downtown Columbus at the SR 750 / CR 9 junction. The main draw for visitors is the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and its waterpark Zoombezi Bay, both on Powell Road. The historic core along Olentangy Street is small: a few blocks of shops, ice cream and a local history society. Treat Powell as a half-day or one-night add-on to a Columbus trip, not a destination on its own.

- North America ↗Crossing between the US, Canada and Mexico by land needs your passport even on a day trip; rental cars need the company's written permission to cross, and most US and Canadian rental insurance stops at the Mexican border.
- North America ↗Cannabis is legal in Canada and in many US states, but taking any amount across the US, Canadian or Mexican border is a federal crime — including edibles and vapes.
- North America ↗The busiest US and Canadian national parks need timed-entry, campsite or lodge reservations in summer; release dates are months ahead.
- United States ↗Check whether you need an ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) or a visa on the official CBP and State Department sites; apply only through esta.cbp.dhs.gov, not third-party sites, and allow time before you book.
- United States ↗Several popular national parks use timed-entry or vehicle reservations in peak season; check each park's page on nps.gov and book on recreation.gov before fixing your dates.
- United States ↗Medical care is very expensive for visitors; buy travel insurance with high medical cover before you fly.
- United States ↗Tipping is expected: about 15–20% at sit-down restaurants and bars, and a tip for taxis, hotel staff and guides.

Getting around
A car is effectively required: Powell is a suburban crossroads with no rail or bus service useful to visitors. SR 750 and CR 9 meet in the centre; downtown Columbus is about 12 miles (19 km) south, Dublin about 10–15 min. Parking is free and easy almost everywhere. Rideshare works but waits can be long late at night.

Powell Road / zoo corridor
Closest to the Columbus Zoo and Zoombezi Bay; mostly chain hotels and the Nationwide Hotel & Conference Center. Best if the zoo is your reason for coming.
Historic Olentangy Street core
Walkable to the shops, Jeni's and Espresso 22; very few beds, so book early or stay in Dublin or Columbus instead.
Dublin / Bridge Street area (nearby)
10–15 min south; more hotels, restaurants and a walkable historic centre. A better base if you want options.
