Kórnik is a small town 18 km south-east of Poznań, built around one sight: the Działyński Castle with its library and the adjoining arboretum. The castle and the parish church stand about 200 m apart, so the town itself is walkable in an afternoon. Most travellers come from Poznań and return the same day; a night makes sense only if you want the arboretum in the morning light or a base for Rogalin and the Warta river.

Getting around

On foot. The castle, arboretum and parish church are within about 200 m of each other, and the main square is a short walk away. Kombus local buses serve the lakes and the train station, 3 km from the centre; for most visitors they are not needed.

Watch out

Safety

A quiet small town and one of the safer stops in Poland. The real risks are thin pavements on the road in, deer on the road at dusk if you drive, and the last bus back to Poznań leaving earlier than you think.
  • The train station is 3 km from the centre: use local buses 502, 590, 591, 592 or 594, or a taxi.
  • Castle and arboretum opening hours change by season and the castle can close for events: check the official site the day before.
  • Bus 501 runs about twice an hour at peak and hourly off-peak: check the last return before you leave Poznań.
  • Parking by the castle costs more than the main square; both are small on summer weekends.
