Kalyan-Dombivli is a twin commuter city east of Thane in the North Konkan, home to over a million people and to Mumbai's office workers. It has almost no sightseeing of its own. What it does have is Kalyan Junction, one of the busiest stations on the Central line, where long-distance trains stop and where you change for the Karjat and Kasara branches. Treat it as transport and shopping, not as a destination.

Getting around
Local trains are the only reliable way in and out; Kalyan Junction is the hub and almost every train stops there. Within a town, auto-rickshaws are easy to find but fares are often fixed by negotiation rather than metered, so agree the price before you get in. City buses are crowded and do not cover the whole area. Central Kalyan and central Dombivli are walkable; the two towns are about 8 km apart.
