Rosslare is two places 8 km apart: Rosslare Strand, a long sandy beach resort with the hotels and golf, and Rosslare Europort, a freight and ferry terminal with nothing to stroll. Trains from Dublin take about 3 h; the ferry piers sit within 200 m of the Europort station. Most travellers pass through, but the beach, two links courses and the Carne and Lady's Island coast justify a night.

Getting around

Trains run from Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Strand and Rosslare Europort (about 3 h, five a day). Expressway Bus 40 calls at Europort twice a day and does not serve the Strand; Wexford Bus 878 links Wexford town and the Strand three times a day, Mon–Sat. No car rental at either Rosslare station: hire in Wexford town. You need a car for Carnsore Point, Lady's Island and Carne.

Safety

Very safe for a small coastal town; the real risks are cold water and rip currents on the Strand, unlit roads after dark, and Atlantic storms that close the beach walk.
  • Europort is an industrial, restricted zone: no strolling or sightseeing.
  • No car rental in Rosslare Strand or Europort; collect in Wexford town.
  • The 878 bus to the Strand does not run on Sundays.
  • Book ferries and the beachfront hotel well ahead for summer weekends.
  • Atlantic storms can close the beach walk and change Lady's Island Lake's water; check locally.
