Singaraja is North Bali's old colonial capital: wide streets, a multi-ethnic waterfront, Bali's largest Chinese temple and a lontar-script library. Almost no visitors sleep here — Lovina, 20 minutes west, has the beds and the beach. Come for a half-day, or base in Lovina and day-trip in.

Getting around

The city is walkable along Jl Erlangga and Jl Veteren, but sights are spread out and most visitors arrive by car or scooter. Gojek and Grab motorbike taxis work here and are often cheaper than local bemo. Three bus terminals mean bemos between them; allow extra time.

Safety

Singaraja is calm and low-crime; the real risks are scooter traffic, unlit roads after dark and wet-season landslides on the mountain routes. Standard Bali precautions apply.
  • Three separate bus terminals (Banyuasri, Sukasada, and one more) — confirm which one your bus uses before you set off.
  • Non-Hindu visitors are normally not allowed inside Pura Jagatnatha; view from outside.
  • Wet-season landslides and slow traffic on the mountain routes from the south.
  • Ride-hailing apps may not pick up inside some terminals; walk to the road gate.
