Jomsom sits at about 2,800 m in the Kali Gandaki valley, the district centre of Mustang and the practical end of the Annapurna Circuit now that a jeep road runs down to Beni. Almost nobody comes for the town itself: it is a flight-in, walk-out trailhead for Muktinath and the upper Mustang road, and a place where wind, altitude and cancelled flights set the schedule. Two nights is the useful maximum.

Getting around
The town is compact and walkable in 15 minutes end to end. For Muktinath or Kagbeni take a shared jeep from the strip, or walk the trail; there is no local bus network worth using.

Safety
- Altitude: 2,800 m. Sleep one night before going higher, and do not fly in from Pokhara and walk to Muktinath the same day.
- Flights cancel for wind and cloud; keep a buffer day before an international flight.
- The Beni–Jomsom jeep road is landslide-prone in the monsoon; in the dry season it is rough but open.
- ACAP permit and TIMS card are checked on the trail: carry them.
- Cash only in most lodges; the ATM here is unreliable.
