Jebudo is a small west-coast island in Hwaseong, about 1.5–2 h from Seoul by subway plus bus. Twice a day the sea parts and a paved causeway appears — the so-called Moses Miracle — and that tide window is the whole reason to come. Beaches, mudflats, a fishing pier and pensions fill the rest. With no subway on the island and infrequent buses, a car or taxi makes the trip work; without one, plan around the bus times and the tide table.

Getting around

No subway on the island. Buses are infrequent and the island is spread out, so a car or taxi is the practical way to move between the beach, the pier and the mudflats. Local taxi companies serve the island; agree the fare before you set off. Walking works only if your pension is close to what you want to see.

Watch out

Safety

Jebudo is a low-crime rural island; the real risks are the returning tide on the mudflats, slippery rocks near Maebawi, and driving the causeway at the wrong hour.
  • The causeway is only passable around low tide — check the tide table before you drive or take a bus onto the island.
  • Summer weekends fill pensions and beaches; book ahead.
  • Some farms and attractions close in winter.
  • Mudflat walking is slippery and the tide returns fast: keep to marked areas and watch the water.
