St. Clairsville is the seat of Belmont County, a town of about 5,200 people on the old National Road where I-70 crosses the Ohio Valley. The draw is small and specific: an 1885 Second Empire courthouse on the ridge, a county heritage museum, and a 2.5-mile rail-trail with Ohio's only rail-trail tunnel. Almost everyone arrives by car, stays one night off the interstate, and moves on to Wheeling or Pittsburgh. Treat it as a half-day stop with a bed, not a destination.
