Murano is a small island town in the Venetian Lagoon, about 1.5 km north of Venice and part of the same comune. It is known for glassmaking, two old churches and a glass museum. Most travellers come for a half-day; a minority base here for cheaper rooms and a calmer night, accepting a 20–40 min vaporetto ride to Venice's sights.

Watch out
Safety
- Free boat ride to a glassworks: a known scam. Prices are inflated and the Italian contract does not match what you were told in English.
- Counterfeit glass sold as Murano: look for the Vetro Artistico Murano trademark decal on the object and in the shop window.
- Most restaurants take turns closing for dinner because most visitors are day-trippers: ask your hotel which is open tonight.
- Acqua alta can flood low fondamente in autumn and winter; check the tide forecast before walking the outer edge.
