Pärnu is Estonia's summer capital: a shallow, near-white sand beach, a 2 km promenade, wooden villas and a cluster of spa hotels around a small old town. It sits on the Tallinn–Riga corridor, so it works as a beach break or a half-day stop between the two capitals. In winter the beach is empty and the reason to come is a spa package.

Getting around

The old town and beach are walkable end to end in about 25 minutes. City buses run 26 routes and tickets are bought in the pilet.ee app; a free summer shopping-centre bus also runs. Taxis are cheap for short hops; the airport has no regular bus for arrivals.

Watch out

Safety

Pärnu is a low-risk town; the real issues are cold water, unlit park paths after dark and summer bar bills — ask the total before you sit.
  • The Tallinn–Pärnu rail link closed in 2018: go by bus, not train.
  • Pärnu Airport has no regular service on arrival — pre-book a taxi.
  • The beach is shallow and safe, but the Baltic stays cold even in August.
  • Ferries to Kihnu leave from Munalaid, 35 km west, not from the city centre.
