Brighton is a small southeast Michigan city of about 7,400 people on I-96, roughly 45 minutes from Detroit and 20 minutes from Ann Arbor. Its draw is a compact downtown on the Mill Pond with a riverside boardwalk, a handful of bars and restaurants, and Island Lake State Recreation Area just east. It works as a night off the highway or a base for Livingston County, not as a destination on its own.

Getting around

A car is the practical choice: downtown is walkable, but Island Lake, the highway motels and any day trip need driving. Brighton has no Amtrak station; the nearest rail is Ann Arbor, about 20 min away (check the Detroit–Chicago line timetable before relying on it). Local bus coverage is thin — check the Livingston County options before relying on it.
