Ellicottville is a village of about 1,600 people in Cattaraugus County, built around two ski hills: Holiday Valley, roughly 2 km from the centre on US 219, and HoliMont on NY 242. Downtown is one walkable strip, Washington Street, with shops, bars and restaurants. One night covers the village; add a second if you are skiing both days or pairing it with Allegany State Park.

Downtown is compact and walkable; you do not need a car inside the village. You do need one to reach Holiday Valley (about 2 km on US 219) or HoliMont (on NY 242 before the village). No local bus network; a car or a lift from your lodging is the practical option.

Very low street crime; the real risks are winter driving on US 219 and NY 242, unlit rural roads at night, and drinking on a slope day. 911 works everywhere.
  • Winter driving on US 219 and NY 242: lake-effect snow and ice are common Dec–Mar; check road conditions before you set out.
  • HoliMont is open to the public Monday–Friday only; weekends are members-only, so plan weekend skiing at Holiday Valley.
  • Many restaurants and shops run reduced hours or close mid-week outside ski season; call ahead in spring and fall.
