Borjomi is a small spa town in the Borjomula gorge, about 10,500 people, known for the mineral water that carries its name. The centre is walkable in an hour, the park and cable car fill an afternoon, and Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is the reason to stay longer. Most travellers pass through on the way to Vardzia or Akhaltsikhe, or stop for one night between Tbilisi and the south.

Getting around

The centre is small enough to walk; the park gate is about 1.5 km south-east of the main square. City bus no. 1 runs from the central square to Likani, no. 3 north to Kvibisi, no. 4 south towards Atskuri. A city bus ride is about 0.20 lari. Bolt and local taxis cover the plateau and outlying sights; agree the price first.

Watch out

Safety

Borjomi is a small, low-crime resort town and feels safe day and night. The real risks are mountain weather on the park trails, uneven paths to the hot pools, and unmarked taxi prices: agree the fare before you ride.
  • Trains from Borjomi Parki can leave early: be at the platform ahead of the posted time, and pay the conductor in cash.
  • There is no online ticket for the Tbilisi train; bring small change.
  • The Borjomi Freight station line east of town was not operating as of 2024: check before planning around it.
  • At the natural hot pools, unofficial drivers offer expensive rides back; walk out or agree a price before you get in.
  • Some guesthouses and small cafés take cash only.
