AmediAmadiya

Half a day is enough to see the old town, the Great Mosque and the view; add a meal at Silav waterfall and you fill a full day. Overnight only if you want to hike or visit fruit farms.

Amedi is a small hilltop town in Iraqi Kurdistan, 10 km from the Turkish border. Its main draw is the setting: a flat-topped mountain with views over the valleys. The old town has a 12th-century mosque, Assyrian ruins and a former synagogue. Most visitors come for a few hours from Dohuk or Zakho, eat kebab at the Silav waterfall, buy tahini and leave.
